The Little Team that Could

Cal's baseball team lost just about every regular season game there was.  Most of the games were pretty painful.  None of the kids really cared.  Most of them just wanted to go home or to keep playing with the dirt in the infield.   I usually brought a book to read.  But something happened when they reached the end of the season.  All of a sudden this team banded together and they started to care.  And they won their first tournament game.  And then they won again, and again, and again.  Suddenly, we were in the championship game and no one expected it.  They had to play the Dodgers last night, whom they barely beat the Saturday before.  The Dodgers played all week and came through the loser bracket to try to beat us again.  The first inning they scored one run.  The next inning, they scored 5!  It looked like a lost cause, but then this scrappy little team came together.  The next inning they tied them 6 all.  The next inning, both teams were held scoreless.  The Dodgers got back up to bat and we held them.  Now all we needed was one runner to cross home plate.  The first two batters were walked, then up came some little guy.  He ended up hitting, bringing in the only runner we needed and the game was called.  The Yankees won the tournament!  Who would have thought?  We were so proud of all of them!  Calvin did awesome!  Way to go!

It was so great to have Grandma Shirlee,
 Cynthia and her kids,
Coleman,

 Grandpa Rand,
and Grandma Reeves there.  Thanks for ALL of your support!
