A Christmas Challenge: The Living Christ

Do you feel up to a challenge?  

We have decided to take on a challenge in the next 16 weeks.  

I read a wonderful article in the September Ensign about a family that memorized "The Living Christ" and how it blessed their family tremendously.  "The Living Christ" is a written testimony of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  You can read it here.  It was called “Bringing Christ into Our Home,” Ensign, Sep 2010, 8–9 and I was so inspired when I read it.  I wanted that for myself and my family.

Every year we give a gift to the Savior for Christmas.  And this year I thought it would be neat to give the Savior to ME this year--to bring Him more into my life, my mind, my heart. 

I discovered that there was 16 weeks left until Christmas and so I decided to break up "The Living Christ" into 16 parts.  I typed up the first sentence and placed it all around the house--in the bathroom, the kitchen, the fridge . . . with a picture to help attract the little kids' attention like the lady in the article did.    I just thought it would be so cool to have this memorized on Christmas and as a family before we opened the gifts and thought only of ourselves and our wealth, we would think about him and recite it together.

Anyway, some of you I know have already memorized this, but I just thought it would be a cool things for the cousins and all of us to share and work on together.

Week 1:  As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of his matchless life and the infinite virtue of his great atoning sacrifice. (That was typed, by the way, by memory!  I am so excited!)

Week 2:  None other has had so profound an influence upon al who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.  

Week 3:  He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New.  Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth.  "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made (John 1:3).  

Week 4:  Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness.  He "went about doing good (Acts 10:38), yet he was despised for it.  His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill.  He entreated all to follow His example.

Week 5:  He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead.  He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come.
